Kaia’s 2nd Birthday Partay August 9, 2009

what’s This?

Obviously a pink heart right?

Into cutey delicious gluten-free cupcakes!

Bad picture of the castle cake (that’s a vinland flag)

She ate the crown first, then the whole frog head as screams of ’she must be Ozzie Osbourn’s daughter’ rang in the background

and Owyn’s sloppy goblins he cooked in the crockpot with momma’s supervision – he’s eight

  1. Janelle Says:

Happy Birthday Kaia! The cupcakes are too cute!

  2. I love the little cupcakes. What did you use to make the hearts and frogs?

  3. It’s a regular size bag of mini marshmallows, about 1/2 of a normal size bag of powdered sugar, plus vanilla and food tinting from the baking section.
Basically I just put the marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl, set them in for 2 minutes. At 1 minute, took them out and stirred, and when they are almost all dissolved, took them out. Greased my hands with crisco VERY well (halfway up my arm) with my 15 yo on standby for more grease as needed LOL. Then I proceeded to work in the powdered sugar. Once the marshmallow/sugar mix was fairly maleable. I took it out of the bowl and proceeded to knead it, on more powdered sugar until the mix was really stretchy, but also hard to knead anymore. Then I let it refridgerate for a few hours, then added the tinting. I use this mix on my kids cakes that call for fondant as this tastes MUCH better than traditional fondant (like really sugary marshmallows). If you scroll back to May, you should see my older daughters cake made out of the same fondant.
